南安普顿大学光电子研究中心(ORC, the Optoelectronics Research Centre)是世界上最大最成功的光子学研究机构之一。当今全球光纤设施中许多重要发展,都是由ORC研究人员倡导和引领。这些进展包含了各类光纤技术、促进互联网发展的掺铒光纤放大器EDFA在内的光放大器技术、广泛用于现代航空航天辅助导航的光纤陀螺技术、一系列的光纤传感技术,以及大量应用于制造业的光纤激光技术等。

导师介绍:
Dr Jize Yan is an Associate Professor in the University of Southampton. He received his first degree in photonics from Tsinghua University in China, and his PhD in MEMS (microelectromechanical-system) from the University of Cambridge. He has also hold positions as a Research Assistant, Research Associate, Senior Research Associate and Principal Investigator at the University of Cambridge.
Jize research lies primarily in the design, fabrication and characterisation of MEMS, optomechanical systems and sensors, with a focus on high Quality-factor resonators, which have applications in highly accurate oscillators, narrow bandwidth filters, highly sensitive sensors, energy harvesters, wireless communication and distributed fibre optic sensors. His previous work has resulted in many world's first devices in microsystems and sensor systems.
Jize is the PI on a recently-funded £1 million EPSRC project 'Integrated levitated optomechanical gravimeter'. He has also led 17 pilot research projects. As PI or co-investigator, he has secured £14 millions research grants and industry supports from various sources. He has worked with 30+ industrial collaborators.
Jize has co-founded 3 companies in the field of Wireless Sensor Network (Wisen, www.wisencn.com), Vibration Energy Harvesting (8Power, www.8power.co.uk) and Blockchain Infrastructure (TRACO, traco.co) to develop industrial applications. His students have formed a Healthcare and Big Data company for Pharmaceutical Applications in UK (Healthera, www.healthera.co.uk, which hold 40% of the UK market share), and a software solution company in Kenya (Henga, https://henga.co).
Jize is a member of Zepler Institute (www.zeplerinstitute.ac.uk), Southampton Nanofabrication Centre (www.southampton-nanofab.com), and Centre for Risk Research (www.southampton.ac.uk/risk/). He is working closely with Optoelectronics Research Centre (www.orc.soton.ac.uk),  Warwick Manufacturing Group (for Battery Monitoring), UC Berkeley (for Smart Infrastructure) and Singapore CREATE Centre/Cambridge Centre for Carbon Reduction in Chemical Technology (for Energy).

Jize currently supervises eight PhD students (seven of them got UK full studentship and/or CSC studentship).
