Postdoc and Ph.D. RA Openings in Computational Materials Science at the University of Maryland-College Park
Postdoctoral Research Associate openings and Ph.D. Research Assistantship openings are available at Professor Yifei Mo’s group at the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, the University of Maryland, College Park (UMD). Prof. Mo’s group aims to advance the understanding, design, and discovery of engineering materials through cutting-edge computational techniques. We target critical materials problems that impede high-impact technologies, such as energy storage, conversion, and efficiency. The computational modeling provides enhanced fundamental scientific insights, and enables the ability to rationally design new materials. The group has extensive collaborations with industry, national laboratories, and researchers from other disciplines (computer science, applied mathematics, physics, etc.). More information about the group can be found at http://yfmo.umd.edu
Qualifications of the postdoc candidate include:
• Ph.D. in Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry or any related field is required.
• Knowledge of materials science and solid-state physics.
• Experience with ab initio computational methods and/or molecular dynamics simulations.
• Good scientific programming skills in Python, C/C++, Fortran, and the ability to translate physical models to efficient numerical algorithms.
We encourage applicants with a range of computational modeling techniques and research interests to apply. A cover letter, curriculum vitae, and a list of references should be sent to Prof. Yifei Mo at yfmo@umd.edu. An immediate starting date is preferred.
The candidate for RA positions will be seeking a Ph.D. degree in Materials Science and Engineering (starting Fall 2020 semester). Interested candidates may contact Prof. Yifei Mo directly at yfmo@umd.edu. Formal applications should be submitted online to the graduate school of UMD. Please submit the application for the Ph.D. program in Materials Science and Engineering. The application deadline is 1/3/2020. More information about the application process can be found at http://mse.umd.edu/graduate/admissions
The research project will mainly focus on the ab initio quantum mechanical modeling and large-scale atomistic modeling combined with cutting-edge data-driven techniques including artificial intelligence and machine learning. The project involves collaborations with top experimental groups at UMD and national lab, and with top researchers from computer science, applied mathematics, physics, and chemistry, through multiple federal/industry funded projects.
The University of Maryland, College Park, is located in Washington, D.C. metro area. Its proximity to the nation's capital has resulted in strong research partnerships with federal government agencies and research laboratories, including the Department of Energy (DOE), the National Science Foundation (NSF), the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Army Research Laboratory, and Naval Research Laboratory.
课题组的研究工作发表在Nature, Nature Materials, Nature Communications, JACS, Angewandte Chemie, Advanced Energy Materials, Chemistry of Materials 等期刊上。
