Doctoral Candidate Position
Atomic carbon source from C(0)-complexes
Our research team at the Institut des Sciences Moléculaires (ISM – CNRS-UMR 5255) of the University of
Bordeaux is recruiting a doctoral candidate to carry out organic synthesis investigations within the framework
of an ANR-funded project (PRC ATOMIC) in partnership with colleagues at the University of Toulouse.
This project aims at preparing reactive synthetic equivalents of atomic carbon based on ylide-type C(0)-
complexes bearing different types of ligands, including (chiral) aryl iodides, and to study their properties and
reactivity in order to develop new synthetic methodologies. In particular, the reactivity of novel iodonium ylidetype C(0)-complexes will be examined in the context of metal-free intramolecular C–H insertion processes,
(asymmetric) cyclopropanation transformations for the elaboration of bicyclic motifs featured in natural products
skeleta, as well as macrocyclization sequences.
Candidate profile: The successful applicant will have to hold a Master degree (or equivalent) in organic
chemistry, to demonstrate his/her strong interest and enthusiasm for organic synthesis, to possess a solid
background knowledge in organic chemistry, and to show evidence of good experimental skills for
performing and monitoring chemical reactions, as well as for purifying and characterizing reaction products.
NB: Knowledge of the French language would be appreciated, but is not necessary. However, good written
and oral communication skills in English are compulsory.
Starting period and duration: January/Februrary 2020 for 36 months
How to Apply: Interested candidates are encouraged to submit their application documents comprising a
cover letter, a curriculum vitae, a copy of the Master degree together with academic transcripts (i.e., list of
Master-level courses and examination scores) in a single pdf file by email to:
stephane.quideau@u-bordeaux and laurent.pouysegu@u-bordeaux.fr
And to arrange to have at least two letters of recommendation sent to the same addresses by October 11,
2019.
