The White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer has resigned, reportedly in protest at an organizational shakeup. Speaking later on US television, Mr. Spicer said that although the President didn't want him to go, he felt that would be, as he put it, "too many cooks in a kitchen".

The Palestinian President has suspended all official contacts with Israel as the crisis grows over additional security measures in the old city of Jerusalem. Three Palestinians and three Israelis had been killed in ensuing violence.

Venezuela's Supreme Court has accused the opposition-controlled National Assembly of betrayalafter it appointed 13 new judges to the court. The Assembly says it has the right to name and fire justices under the constitution, but the court said the move was illegal.
