dr. kim jin young's lab:
department of biomedicine, city university of hong kong ( qs world rank 53)
professor kim has long studied the regulatory mechanism of circadian clocks and neurodegeneration with mouse models. she has published fascinating stories in cell reports, febs journal, iscience, pnas, molecular cell, nature neuroscience, etc.
the research group has long been committed to mouse models of neurodegeneration and demyelination (brain pathologies), and disrupted circadian clocks. circadian clocks, endogenous oscillators, generate daily rhythms in various cellular processes and behavior. a growing body of evidence has shown abnormal circadian rhythms such as altered sleep and dysregulation of hormone levels in patients with brain disorders, like alzheimer's and parkinson's disease. however, little is known about the underlying mechanisms. our mission is to understand the physiological functions of circadian clocks in the brain and how circadian clocks are involved in brain pathologies and repair systems. the ultimate goals are finding novel therapeutic targets to modulate circadian clocks to treat/prevent brain pathologies and design advanced treatment strategies based on circadian rhythms.
